Dear Francios
Post by Francois Massion"Arial Baltic" is an old font which is not sold anymore.
It isn´t. It´s a special problem based on unicode and old windows-125x
codesides.
Arial baltic is not a real font, it is a virtual font provided by
Windows since 95 to programs, which do not understand unicode. That´s
not perfect.
Windows has a font "Arial" which is coded unicode. For programs, like
pagemaker the Arial unicode is splitted by windows into different
codesides like Arial CE, Arial baltic, Arial kyrillic etc. These fonts
are showed in Pagemaker, but they do not really exist.
This works fine to edit baltic (or other langauge), but if you try to
make a pdf, Pagemaker looks for the font file of Arial, coded in baltic
(Win-1257) to embed it to the pdf, but it doesn´t find it. The same is,
when you will print directly from a pagemaker to a postscript printer.
So you must replace the virtual Arial baltic font by a real Arial or
Helvetica font, coded in Windows 1257. This can be done in different ways:
- Purchase a helvetica font at http://www.fontshop.de/. Before you waste
your money, make sure asking the vendor that it is coded by windows-1257
codeside and that it is embeddable to pdf-files.
Reformat your pagemaker file using this font.
- Give me your real E-Mail address, I will send you a free Helvetica
font, which will work with all characters, used in Lithuanian Language.
This font is not a professional one, try out, if the printing quality is
o.k. for you. I cannot guarantee, if all Latvian and Estonian characters
are correctly included.
- Open the pagemaker file in Indesign, if you have. All special baltic
characters will be false. For Lithuanian language I can send you a
table, which character you have to replace by others. Find and replace
will work fine. In Lithuanian are 2*9 (low and upper case) characters to
change for Latvian or Estonian some more - try it out yourselve.
- If you have a Mac system availiable, try out to make a pdf there. Mac
is a more professional system for DTP, _may be_ the problem, which is
one of the collaboration of Windows and Pagemaker is solved there.
Unfortunatly I don´t have a Mac, if someone would find a more simple
solution there, I would be very interested myselfe for every information.
For all these ways pay attention, if you have Word-, Excel,- or other
files embedded in your pagemaker document. There may be not
comprehensible, curious effects, depending on the way, the file is edited.
Last not least you can send me your document, I will give you a price to
do it, if I can.
best regards
Joachim Peter
